Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory condition, in that primarily we see joint inflammation, pain, loss of function, and eventual joint destruction and deformity. The disorder has a different levels of severity ranging from mild inflammation in a few joints leading to multiple joints, mainly including hands and feet. As the condition deteriorates, the cartilage and the bone of the joint get damaged. Cartilage destruction is the warning of this disease.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) can not be related to any one disease unit in Ayurveda. we use the protocols of amavata and vatarakta in different levels of RA.

As per the Ayurvedic understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease, imbalance, occurs at a higher level of the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract to cause immune response and inflammation.

Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis

RA can be managed with ayurvedic medicines and Panchakarma procedures like

  • Deepana
  • Amapachana
  • Swedana
  • Vamana, Virechana, Asthapana (type of Basti), and Nasya therapies.

Osteo Arthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disorder of the joints, wherein the cartilage, cushioning the ends of the bones slowly loses its elasticity and outwear. Without the protective cartilage, the bones started to rub against each other, leading to pain, stiffness, inflammation, and loss of movement.

OA mostly emerges in the weight-bearing joints, like the knees, hips, and spine (usually in the neck or lower back). For people with advanced osteoarthritis, the effects are not only physical but also emotional as pain and decreasing flexibility can limit the ability in performing daily activities.

Sandhigatavata condition can be related to Osteoarthritis (OA) which is a predominantly regressive disease.
